Della Villa Castle

Montecchi and Capuleti are families that really existed and present in the Italian territory between the 13th and 14th centuries. In literature, the story originates from a short story by Luigi Da Porto, warlord and writer from Vicenza, the first cantor of the love story and the feud between Montecchi and Capulets, indirect inspiration of the great William Shakespeare who drew inspiration for a work that became a symbol immortal of tragic love.

If you are in northern Italy, more precisely in the Veneto region in Montecchio Maggiore (Vicenza) you cannot miss the opportunity to visit these two majestic castles (open free to the public, dates and opening time at this link).

From the Bellaguardia castle, also known as Juliet’s castle, on the best days you can enjoy a view of the small Dolomites and the nearby castle of the Villa, the castle of her beloved Romeo.

I recommend focal lengths between 24 and 100mm, but choose a lens that is more wide-angle to capture the beautiful hills that surround you. For the occasion together with my Hasselblad X1D I chose to bring with me two focal lengths a little more particular for the landscape photography genre, 35mm (XDC45)and 90mm (XCD120); this is because I didn’t want to fall back into the obvious and take the usual beautiful horizontal photo from the vast panorama.

The shot does not require excessive “aesthetic” retouching, the only intrusive part is the street lamp, easily eliminated with the help of the Adobe Photoshop clone stamp and patch tool. The rest of the processing was carried out for simple personal taste.
